The Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine primarily prevents severe forms of childhood tuberculosis (TB), such as TB meningitis. Routinely given to infants in countries with a high TB burden, it is rarely used in the U.S. due to low infection risk, variable adult efficacy, and interference with TB skin tests.
