Dengue vaccines are specialized immunizations designed to protect against the four different serotypes of the dengue virus (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). Developing these vaccines is uniquely challenging due to a phenomenon called antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), where antibodies from an incomplete immune response can actually make a subsequent dengue infection more severe.
